Post-Treatment Recommendations

Today we rebuilt your tooth with a white (tooth colored) strong bonded restoration. This replaced an area of decay or a broken or leaking filling. Your restoration is set and should perform well once the anesthetic wears off.

Anesthesia

  • You will continue to be under the effects of the anesthetic for several hours following your treatment. Depending on the type of anesthetic you had, the lower arch will most likely stay numb longer than the upper arch.
  • Please use caution when eating or drinking anything while numb. We recommend a soft and moderate temperature diet during this time. Avoid hot, hard or chewy foods so you do not burn or bite yourself for the next few hours.

What you can expect:

  • Mild sensitivity to temperature can be common with a new restoration. This can be due to the depth of the repair or because the tooth becomes slightly dehydrated during the restoration process. Generally, this is a temporary situation that will last just a few days or even weeks. However, a small minority of patients will have sensitivity for a longer period of time.
  • Occasionally there is soreness in the injection site, which can last a day or two. Ibuprofen** or acetaminophen** may help with this discomfort.

Medications:

  • When taking any medications, be sure to read the label for directions, allergy alerts and warnings. Follow directions on the label or as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
